TERRAFORMING AT FRENCH CULTURAL CENTRE

DECEMBER 2, 2015  BY MORSCHE QHAN

French Cultural Centre in Karachi (Alliance Francaise de Karachi) laid out an event to transform its main wall into art in November 2015. Main purpose of the wall art was to install a drinking water cooler for passersby. Xandria Noir was one of the five artists, two French and three Pakistani, who came forward to pin ideas and expertise from laying out the concept, colour scheme and animation and then painting. The process before the start up took three months of regular weekly meetings. The wall took 7 days of efforts to completion followed by an opening event on November 30, 2015 at Alliance Francaise de Karachi. Xandria Noir gave her speech along with Baptise Chenin, AFK gallery incharge/artist, on the process and inspiration in front of the audience. She explained her concept of choosing the this specific colour palette for the wall. The wall is inspired by Piet Mondrian’s Neo-Plasticism movement originated in early 20th century.

Geometric animation was played on the wall through projector during the evening, which grasped the attention of the visitors. The wall received great admiration from the visitors at the opening. People called it unique, as it stood different from the usual Truck Art and Cultural Themes of the rest of the wall in the city.
