Have got to tell you this about my new house
August 16, 2017
So 23 days have passed since I have been living in this house. It feels like I have been living here way longer, by the way. So peaceful. I am appreciative of this every day. Spending 20 months in my previous house with the most horrible house owners and people ever existed on Earth, every second needs appreciation here. The new lady (house owner) is amazing. She is peaceful and cheerful and she loves cats. Compare to the previous ones (SImeen Kizilbash and Anwar Kizilbash) who were always, screaming, abusing, complaining and fighting, Jamil (the new lady) is an angel sent to me from heaven.
The light and wind are very fluent in this house. I love my studio mainly due to the light it receives and the view of the big terrace through its full size window that gives it a visual expansion. It’s smaller than my last studio but very bright and peaceful. You should see the red brick wall of the terrace, it’s beautiful.
There are trees in the view as well and I love watching them sway. The largest and widest one is actually my neighbors’ tree and I hope they don’t cut it someday for whatever the reasons Pakistanis are always chopping trees down in Karachi. Seriously, it’s very usual for Karachi administration and people to cut trees for ‘the view’ I mean what view or else?
Like for example in Saddar (downtown), an almost two hundred year old very excessively wide tree (or Peut-être older) that housed an artist under its shade for 30 years, was recently chopped down to install a traffic light. WTH? No, the tree was not in the way of traffic. It was in silent standing composure on a sidewalk for 2 centuries (I mean there might not be the sidewalk then). One day, few months ago I went and saw the disproportional sight. The tree was gone and suspended in the air on a pipe was a new traffic light. I was furious. And no, the light could have been easily installed on the other side or else ways. Intellectually challenged government. Who can educate them about the positive effects of nature? Yes, I know what you mean. One tree can’t do much of a ‘nature’ in the most polluted part of the city but hey, I loved that tree. It’s pretty personal.
Anywhoooo…coming back to my studio, I also love the fact that it is West open side of the house. In Defence (DHA), a posh area in Karachi, it’s a ‘big deal’ for people to have a West open house. I don’t understand why so as they all are always habitating in an artificial air-conditioned environment with all windows sealed as if the air will rip them off their existence. For me, it should be a big deal because I love ‘fresh air’ (a rare commodity in Karachi). So, having a West open studio means the view of sunset every day. Yup, luckily there’s no high structure in front of the terrace (so far). Terrace or studio, wherever I am in the evening, I have to see the sun setting below the horizon. I wish there were an ocean too. Oh no no, I don’t want a tsunami to bring that, please. So I take it back.
D’accord, got to go for a run now.
