Mind is a labyrinth for smartness. Smartness pops out from different openings in the labyrinth of every individual. I believe that every human is born with some exception. Everyone is smart to a certain extent.  It is on adults at homes and schools to find it in children and make it a big deal. Unfortunately, most parents fail to do so and so does all schools.
Many children do not perform well when it comes to put answers on paper, and then they are marked according to their apparent performance, which does not reflect their true potential on practical grounds. Children, no matter how hard they have geared up with the information from books and notes, can get distracted by the surrounding or may be by the family members’ ongoing disputes.  Therefore, unfortunately many children achieve average scores on the testing system.
Some children are born with photographic memory. This enables them to memorize the work word by word, which ultimately results in full score.
Ordinary students can be smart regardless of the fetched scores. It is not necessary to achieve more than 80 percent to be sure of excellence. I have personally seen children with exceptional minds in particular subject and total apathy in others. That is due to their interest in specific line not because of their absence of smartness or intelligence.
I also teach. Before it was for all ages but now I have restricted my service for young children only. I get parents from different walks of lives who come and demand 90 or 100 percent scores. I feel pity on children when they cannot fulfill this clause of expectation and come under immense emotional pressure ultimately deteriorating their innate skills. I work on making my students smart, and this is what parents don’t digest. I discuss general topics to enlighten them with knowledge, which they don’t get much in school. Unfortunately, it is never appreciated.
Every child has certain liking towards a certain subject – some have total inclination in music and they ignore the areas where their interest doesn’t reside. Some may be exceptionally good at arts, therefore their Mathematics and Science or other subjects might be neglected by them due to lack of interest.
I am amazed by the false conception of weighing children according to their academic scores. There are several examples of students who were average or below average achievers but are very successful in practical lives. I myself was not too good in results at school. English and Arts were the only subjects where I scored more than 90 percent because they ware my favourite.  I was always rebuked by my teachers and parents for not doing well. But I was never appreciated for my good scores in my favourite subjects as they were shadowed by poor performance in the other areas. My parents were always disappointment in me as I was not up to their mark of expectation.
I was smart in any other thing than school results. I was successfully earning money by renting out my books to neighbor children and selling homemade ink remover in school when I was only 10. I was selling roughly drawn designs of clothes and cutting fabrics for my neighbours and friends with good amount of pocket money. I was keeping accounts book for all sales and profit without even being taught about business. I am very successful in business even now without achieving any business degree.  Why doesn’t it count?
Are only high score achievers successful in practical work environment?
I have seen people who were excellent in schools with exceptional results but have ended up being only employees to some average achiever successful and smart leader.  Their high scores didn’t make them stand in the front row. Take examples of Thomas Edison or Albert Einstein who were labeled ‘dumb’ in their schools and now because of them we have experienced this evolved world today.
I strongly believe that no one should be judged on basis of their academic scores. Instead, parents should give opportunity to their children on their inclination and make them stand out and become someone who makes remarkable impression in the world.
If only high scorers will be considered smart then world has only 12 percent smart people as only 3 out of 25 children in a class gets first three positions.
